Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025

To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we are shining a spotlight on one of our apprentices, Devank Makwana, who is undertaking his Electrical Installation Level 2 & 3 apprenticeship.
Devank recently shared his thoughts on the apprenticeship, which he has been undertaking with the Bugler Developments team at Burgoyne’s Depot in Newham, alongside our subcontractors Moffat Davis. We wish Devank the best of luck as he continues his apprenticeship with us.
Devank says, “After finishing school at the age of 16, having completed my GCSEs I found myself embarking on an apprenticeship with the NHS, specifically in clinical coding I worked there for about 13 years. However, I soon realized that this wasn’t my true calling, and I became captivated by the electrician industry. I decided to follow my passion and began searching online to discover how I could embark on a new career journey. As before, the first step I took was to look for an apprenticeship that would allow me to earn while learning my trade.
On my first day at Burgoynes Depot in Newham, where I reside, I underwent a comprehensive site induction, which is essential for all site operatives to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations. I met John, the electrical supervisor with Moffat Davis and Craig, qualified electrician, whom I shadowed from day one. I have gained a wealth of knowledge since starting. I initially assisted Craig with first fixes, and over time, I’ve become increasingly involved in various aspects of the job, including wiring and installations. Each day presents new challenges and valuable learning opportunities, helping me enhance my skills and grow within the trade.
I am truly enjoying my apprenticeship with Moffat Davis and Bugler Developments. I’ve developed strong relationships with the team on site and approach every day as a chance to learn.
Currently, I am studying electrical installation level 2 & 3 at Waltham Forest Training Trust, which is a 4-year program. I spend most of my time on site, with one week of classroom-based study every four weeks. I’m enjoying the course and see myself continuing in this trade, with ambitions to achieve further qualifications.
I would say anybody that is trying to get into the construction industry to go for it and be confident and you will always be supported along the way.”
