On Friday, 19th January, the Bugler Developments Team were joined by Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE and key representatives from the London Borough of Newham to celebrate the completion of Plashet Road, the first Passivhaus standard affordable homes scheme in the Borough.

Plashet Road in Upton Park is a new development of 65 apartments for affordable rent, and also a new nursery, all designed and built to the Passivhaus standard. This ensures the new homes are warm in winter, cool in summer, have fantastic air quality, reduce energy bills, and minimise carbon emissions. Passivhaus certification is currently in progress and due for completion in Spring 2024.

On the day, Mayor Fiaz conducted the ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially mark the completion, and the Bugler Developments Team provided a tour of some of the different types of apartment, including one of seven wheelchair accessible apartments, and the nursery space.

Andy Bugler, Bugler Group CEO said, “The whole team is incredibly proud to have completed the first Passivhaus standard affordable homes for the London Borough of Newham. We have a strong relationship with Newham, and this is a considerable milestone for the Borough and the sustainable, environmentally-conscious approach they take to new home development. The Bugler Developments team has worked hard to deliver these high quality apartments and I wish all future residents many happy years in their new homes.

I’d like to thank Mayor Fiaz and Councillors Mohammed and Kamali for joining us to celebrate the completion. We now look forward to delivering our other sustainable Passivhaus schemes for Newham, at Vandome Close, Leyes Road and Burgoyne’s Depot.”

Mayor Fiaz said, “As we continue to fight against an acute national housing crisis especially harder in London and Newham, as a Council, we are more focused than ever on building new high-quality homes for our residents that will stand the climate emergency for the years to come.

Our affordable homes program continues to move at pace with the 1,000 I promised during my first term achieved. We are now on track to deliver the additional 1,000 starts with 292 genuinely new homes due to be completed this year alone starting with Plashet Road, our first ever Passivhaus development this year.

Plashet Road is a testament to our commitment to deliver much-needed family homes which private developers do not want to risk building, with 49 two and three-bedroom homes out of the 65 homes and 7 for wheelchair users.

I hope the new residents moving into Plashet Road will enjoy their brand-new cheaper to run homes and I look forward to visiting them soon.”
