This week is National Apprenticeship Week, and to celebrate it, we are sharing some of our apprenticeship stories from across our sites.
Matt Varol, Apprentice Site Manager, originally trained as a bricklayer from the ages of 16-18 at North Hertfordshire College (Engineering & Construction Campus) in Stevenage.
Once Matt had completed his Level 1 and Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying, he joined a local work agency who put him in contact with Mitch Cooper, one of our Contracts Managers.
He worked with Mitch for three years on various Bugler sites across Hertfordshire providing bricklayer, labourer, and traffic marshalling services. He made such a great impression on the team, that we employed him directly in September 2022 in his current position.
We also support our subcontractor apprentices too, such as Aaron Marks, Apprentice Surveyor at Ashvale Civil Engineering.
Aaron successfully secured his role at Ashvale Civil Engineering in September 2019, at the age of 16. He decided to leave school and pursue a career in construction; his inspiration coming from his older brother who started his working life as a Quantity Surveyor and is now a fully qualified Engineer.
Aaron has since undertaken a number of courses including an Advanced Level Apprenticeship and two NVQs in Constrution Contracting Operations; and is currently working on ‘The Foundation Degree in Construction Management’ which he will complete in 2025. Aaron spends 2 to 3 days a month visiting each of his allocated sites and the rest of the time he works in the office on Bugler Developments projects.
Aaron said: “The great support I have had from Ashvale and Bugler with my learning journey has been fantastic. Being taught how to measure and price the individual components of groundworks and being given the time to visit sites whilst training has provided me with the experience I need to help with the theory.”
All at Bugler Developments understand that apprenticeships, and supporting apprentices, provides new entrants to the industry with valuable experience and vital hands-on training and development.
